After our practice yesterday at 550 jgo\Jeff got a call from devan who played at
Beaver town yesterday and he said that the city has bought beaver town and a police officer kindly removed the paintball players from down in beaver town and said there will be a fine of $450.00 for anyone caught paintballin there... So we should do some checkin on this before we get a fine.... and if it is city owned we will need to contact the congress man whos district it's in and start puttin pressure on him

That and we need to get on the city about making a field like LL did and stop people like the Hinkle's monopolizing paintball fields and the paintball industry. Or find out what we as a community can do to help Chuck(granted, he will probably say" Not gonna happen.") get OF up and running again. this crap sux, this is the main reason Albuquerque and NM as a whole are losing out on good things like businesses that support Paintball, look at how many fields are in other states vs. NM.

Well my first attempt went nowhere. Called the Abq land commission (who handles the licensing) and the dwit I talked to did not even know the area so I left a voicemail to another person they x-fered me to.
Just gotta love how the city is run

I have a few questions, more of an observations really. Why can't the city build a paintball park like other cities have done to give paintballers a place to play,How Many skateboard/roller blade parks does Albuquerque really need? How much a yard is Concrete to lay for those parks and how much wooded area does the city own where they can make a place for paintballers to woodsball, or even set up a speed/hyper course? And why not let the paintball community help with the planning and set up. They make all these exceptions for low riders and boarders/bladers to have places to go what about us?

The other question/observation I have is pull up Google map and typs in "US Paintball field" and see how many fields exist on that map, not including the ones that are unmentioned, I saw 5,353 fields alone, and that was by page 13 and it was still loading, but only one to show was Hinkle Family fun center. Things that make you go HMMMMMMMMM ?

I have called the same office and cannot talk to anyone above the secretary. They do not return calls, but she did say that they have not seen any information on purchasing any land up in that area. I am wondering if it was a hoax by the walkers/motorcycles who want us out?

City Buys Land Near Old 66
Journal Staff Report
The city of Albuquerque has purchased 66 acres along old Route 66 as part of an effort to preserve the Tijeras Arroyo as open space.
The land is already home to deer, bears and bald eagles. The city wants to add walking trails so people can enjoy it, too, officials said.
The purchase cost about $2.9 million.
City Council President Don Harris, who represents the area, said many people don't realize that "right on the edge of the city, there's a bosque and stream."
The land abuts the old Route 66, just east of Four Hills Road and Central Avenue. It stretches south and down into the arroyo, not far from several housing subdivisions and other development.
Harris said he hopes to make more purchases and preserve the entire arroyo, which stretches westward toward Eubank and Kirtland Air Force Base.
The city covered most of the purchase price, but Bernalillo County chipped in, too.
"It's an important area that a lot of people in the community wanted preserved," said Michael Brasher, a former county commissioner who supported the purchase.
The portion of the land that abuts old Route 66 could be sold or leased to commercial businesses, Harris said, but the goal is to preserve the bulk of the land as open space. Any commercial deals would preserve the public's right to access the land that remains open space, he said.

Well folks, looks like we might be in trouble for a place to play. If you get on www.cabq.gov , then go to open space page, they ruled that a paintball/airsoft gun are in the same category as a firearm in open space, not allowed. Maybe we could look into something being done like the skateboard parks or something. I am just tossing out ideas here, maybe we as a community should talk with our city councilpersons and see if they might think over a field that gives us all what we want, speed ballers and woods ballers alike. Several cities have taken abandoned suburbs and turned them into paintball fields with alittle private business help. Or make it easier for us as a community to purchase land area to set one up?

I think we do need a city run field, perhaps with a 5 man PSP field..And a woodsball field. It just needs to be made, to simplify us playing.

Called 311, made a pitch to the operator about a city run field(with the help of the paintball community), she said it was being sent to the Mayor's office. Hoping to hear a response(but not holding my breath). Maybe we all can get Patty @ Paintball guns-n-stuff on board as the shop that supplies the air and paint(unless we bring our own). Help a guy who helps us out, and see if we could be the ones involved in field set up.

Oh and Dark, read the posts on the Oak Flats link, Patty is not metioned as the reason. it is Chuck doesn't wanna open, unless there is something you know that he has failed to tell those that try to run games using his field, Like Phil or Mr. Martin(who have dealt with him for years).

I guess I will ask Keith about it when I wake up tomorrow. But what I heard has no implications towards Paddy being involved, Maybe Hinkle should be rolled into this to, since he has his hands in everything from the Law to City council of this great city..... and that is why he is the ONLY field in town.

I don't believe I have ever mentioned Patty being involved with Oak Flats being closed. The reason is that bad shooters at my D-Day event caused Chuck to get insurance and he cannot get any right now.

I didn't think you would do something like that Keith, Some People need to get their S$#@ straight and come correct when they point fingers. I am hoping we can get the Community together with the Duke City Coalition Team and figure out a "Legal" way to play and get a field started to promote the sport, not get it looked down on.

from what ive experienced through all my years playing, cops for the most part are ok with people playing paintball. theyll come and ask what youre doing, but most times theyll just ask that you clean up any trash. unless the same cop sees you out there time after time after he said not too, i dont see it being too much of a big deal

Just finished talking to a woman in the Mayor's Office. First, Open space is a no play zone. She also said that a field is a good idea, but Albuquerque hasn't enough area for one. She said give a call to your district councilor for the county and see what they might suggest. I will be doing that tomorrow. Lets try to get paintball going like other states and see if we can get a tourney here.

Any luck?
I also sent an email to the mayor about this... Lets see if I get anything back. I urge everyone to at least send an email, if not call. Because the more emails/phone calls they get about the need for a paintball field, the more they will take it seriously.
And man, I am disspointed this happened to beavertown... I liked that field a lot. The trenches there were particularly my favorite... Never been on a field like it.
Although I guess this means no more dying as I lug my scuba tanks back up the hill... Gotta look at the bright side, eh?
I'm thinking this was just some random cop and this really isn't the issue we thought it was

Phil, we need to get something rolling so that we don't have to worry about something like that happening again. I love the sport(cut my teeth with a splatmaster) and don't wanna see us looked upon as a nuisance by anyone. I think if we all ban together and get something working with the city or county, we all won't have to worry about the next police officer actually fining the crap outta all of us due to him having a bad day or something. I'm not saying stop playing, just do it legally so we can play.
