Saturday Mike reminded me that Rule #10 states that if a player gets within point blank range you yell out "Your are Dead". For some reason I have always used "Pont Blank" and heard it used many times at Beavertown. It confused us when Mike called out "You are dead" to a teammate of mine, so, unfortunately it stopped the game a while to clarify what he meant. (How can I be dead if no shots were fired and there's no paint on me ?) So I would like to change the rule to use the words "POINT BLANK" to alleviate confusion. I'm just going to run this poll till the weekend (3/26) so vote soon.
To those who don't pay any attention to the rules, please pay no attention to this poll.

I would like to ask everyone here a question. If you just ran 15 yards in a straight line looked up and saw another player there with a gun pointed at you and waving at you, less then eight feet from you would you consider yourself lucky thank the guy and call yourself out. Or keep playing because he did not call point blank. Guys please answer that one.
I think that like all rules it comes down to honesty. Chris has taken me out and I have taken him out by just standing there and waving with the gun pointing at each other. The last time I point blanked Chris. I let him run back to cover (so he would not get shot by anyone else) then yelled "Chris I was being nice his response as he walked off the field was "I know I was just hoping it was a gun failure".
When Phil point blanked my and you (Lex) on the hill last time we played together he used guys your out
Lex I think the answer to your question is nether your dead, point blank, your out is the right answer. I think honesty is the right answer.
Guys we play for fun, we do not have refs, and every time we have had players that used technicalities or cheating to stay in the game instead of honesty we have ended up with hurt feelings.
If a person has you in his sights and you know he has you in his sights, you know there is nothing you can do about it. If he yells point blank, your out, your dead, if he waves, snorts, whistles, shoots besides you to get your attention then says anything accept it and get yourself off the field.
Lex, Your friend ran straight at me for 15 yards while I stood there and waved at him when he saw me he was less then eight feet away. He shot at me and dove in the bushes. I yelled your out first then your dead. But because I did not yell point blank he was still in. after the game he told me to just shoot him next time. The problem I have with that solution is that if I do that he is going to be mad. And a fight always ensues.
Come on guys we are all friends lets just have some honest clean fun.
just my .10 cents worth.

Lex the same way that point blank means you are dead and you have to leave the field. point blank is not equipment failure or out of ammo it means dead.
"Point Blank" keeps it simple and is very understandable for new players, cause that's where the problem tends to lie. If I just started playing and someone yeld "you're dead" I would think that either he was saying that I was hit or that he's just yelling it out as a big of phychological warfare. Another reason to keep "point blank" is because every other paintball place in the States uses it.

Phil's response is exactly what I'm talking about. Gus was a new player and as such should be given clearer direction and maybe some grace. I may not be so new to this game anymore but I probably would have done the same thing in his shoes not to cheat but because of a lack of clarity. If we change the rule and go by it consistently, this should alleviate similar situations.

I also like the term "Point Blank". As Phil mentioned it's the most common used phrase for the situation in Paintball. My 2 pennies.

point blanks are for wimps.
why wouldn't you shoot? in real battles, there are no point blanks.

Its a courtesy. At 10' the paint can break skin. That being said, last game there were two great close range hits.

I am From Florida and recently moved here. A common phrase we used was "TAKE THE HIT". If anyone can give me the rules and laws for albuq. on PB I would appreciate it. I was firing my gun in the backyard and someone told me i could get fined.

Not sure about the rules for private property.

Welcome Cherry from Florida. Although most of us play for fun here there are some who let competition rule over safety... the very reason for the Point Blank Rule. It's more important to look out for your opponent's safety than play reality paintball like we're at war.
As for shooting within the City Limits - it will get you more attention than you want. Whether it's illegal or not, neighbors frown on discharging weapons of all kinds in the city.
More importantly, we have a responsibility to keep the image of paintball on the up and up. For example, we have a track record with the owner of the land we call "Beavertown". At first he lumped us together with irresponsible paintballers who trashed his land every time they showed up. Over time we have changed his image of paintballers by picking up after ourselves and others.
One of the purposes of this forum is to unite over the rules and behavior expected on the field. There have been disagreements but overall we have raised the level of play and integrity of the core players which has affected everyone we play with. Kinda cool I think :!:
